Our Philosophy On Time

I believe every decision that we make in life is rooted in our desire to either avoid pain or seek pleasure. Within the context of financial planning, this can sometimes be rather frustrating because we as human beings have a tendency to focus more on today and less on tomorrow. That is why I always tell my clients that if they have a desire to retire at some point in the future, then there are some things that they need to be doing now in order to make sure that’s possible.

Of course, everything in life always boils down to timing. Timing is kind of a big deal. And if the time is not right today, perhaps it will be at some point in the future. With that being said, I have also always told my clients that time is one of the most valuable commodities that we have, mostly because it’s finite. Once it’s gone, you can never get it back. Consequently, the sooner you get your financial plan formulated and implemented, the sooner you can be on the path to financial independence, which in turn leads to time freedom.

The reality is, for many in our society there is never really a convenient time to begin the overall financial planning process because as Americans we are always busy, and of course, it is never fun setting aside a portion of your income for the future. But remember, when you are younger, you still have time on your side. Therefore, the question inevitably becomes: Will you avoid pain and seek pleasure today, or will you be proactive today in order to enjoy your future?

If you have been procrastinating when it comes to your financial plan, I want you to know that beginning the process is as easy as sitting down and starting a conversation. You simply have to decide that now is the time to begin. It doesn't have to be scary, intimidating, or overwhelming. It can certainly be a lot to think about, but that doesn't mean it has to be a big headache. Furthermore, we are not here to judge you and everything we discuss will be kept completely confidential.
